The blackened San Francisco sky stands over rain and mist, infusing darkness with a glossed awakening of turquoise and ruby. Grasping at the crimson torches dancing over city streets, appearing to fold away the peaceful blue margins of a sleeping marketplace. A view of Montgomery St. Prescott Ct. and Sansome St. Illuminated by rushing coaches brightened for explorers. In the distance Coit Tower, Vallejo St. Levi’s Plaza and The Embarcadero Exploratorium. In the San Francisco Bay, a cold ocean breeze rises along the cresting waves, passing the exalted shadow of Alcatraz Island as it remains wakeful, even at night.

Rainy Evening on Powell Street
Rainy Evening on Powell Street

Acrylic on Canvas - 2014

36" x 24"

SOLD

In San Francisco, the clouds lower sparkling black rain that seems to unravel before the headlamp of a Cable Car and a pair of street lamps. Forever envious and with desire, the black silence chases yellow light dripping endlessly over faded brick and stone, merging with raindrops that somehow survived the fall from the distant, storming sky.

Before us, in San Francisco, Jackson St. Broadway St. The Bank of East Asia, Tung Shing Trading, Ping Yuen Center and Nob Hill District, Russian Hill, “The Summit” and it’s sister towers on Green St. are in the background. Even as daylight seems buried wherever the eyes gaze the city seems wrapped in orange and turquoise silk, leaving us with a sample of humanity’s daring and mostly unintentional result of a skillful craft over concrete, color and light.

View just after exiting the San Francisco Hyatt Regency Hotel, looking West on California St. A Cable Car and a City Utility Truck roam the city in the late afternoon as the Sun sets. For now there is stillness but the tiniest ripple of crimson crashing among the cooling blues as the city takes a deep breath before sleep. The sky is filled with twinkling flakes of sunlight in the center of a great field of concrete and towers, blazing brightly as the sun touches where previous sunsets have made the cold and the dark weak to the golden touch of amber and the warmest ruby.
